The Willow Tree is run by a small team of very friendly, experienced and enthusiastic staff who are committed to treating all children as individuals with differing needs and interests. Every day the children have the opportunity to take part in a mixture of child initiated play and more focussed adult led activities, often based on themes that the children have thought of themselves. In addition there are weekly visit from ‘Miss Alba’ our fantastic Brazilian music teacher and the inspiring ‘London Sports Trust' throughout the year.
Our planning is based on ‘The Early Years Foundation Stage’ curriculum. The nursery is filled with exciting resources which inspire all children to use the ‘characteristics of effective learning’ to explore and develop in all ‘7 areas of learning, using all of their senses.
Additional Learning Needs
At The Willow Tree we are committed to supporting all children including those with additional needs and for whom English is an additional language. We work in partnership with parents and external agents (such as speech and language therapists) in devising Individual Education Plans where necessary in order that each and every child is encouraged to reach their full potential.
Every child is assigned a special person when they start at the nursery school. This teacher supports the child and parents during the settling in period and is also responsible for tracking and supporting the child’s ongoing development. We believe that children benefit most from early years education and care when parents and the setting work in partnership.
Our aim is to support parents and carers by involving them in their children’s education and in the full life of the nursery. Parents are encouraged to join us in to the nursery to read stories, play and bake, and to take part in other activities with the children. Parents and children enjoy baking healthy snacks at home which are then brought to school and shared with all of the children at snack time.
Children wearing nappies or pull ups have named cubby holes in the children’s bathroom where their nappies or pull ups, wipes and spare clothes are stored. When the time is right teachers work with parents and carers to support the toilet-training process in the most positive and sensitive way.
Transition to school
Our children move on to the reception classes of a mixture of local state and private schools when leaving the nursery. These include Wendell Park, The Good Shepherd, Greenside and Ravenscourt Prep. We use a range of strategies to ensure that the transition from nursery to school is as smooth as possible for children and their parents.
